My mother was a Holmes, Lucille Holmes Shotwell of Walthall County (& later East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana). She preserved the Christian Legacy of her godly grandfather, Hon. John Thomas Holmes (1861-1949), who was the great-grandson of Elisha W. Holmes & Sarah "Sally" (Stovall) Holmes. My mother's grandfather, John Thomas Holmes, was a loving & kindly Christian man & a country gentleman who left behind a strong & goodly impression on all who remembered him. I am grateful to the Lord that He gave me the mother He did. I had a great mother. She grew in the grace of the Lord. "Her children rise up and call her blessed." I am thankful for my great-grandfather's legacy to her and our family. I am thankful for my mother's legacy as well.

I am the great-great-grandaughter of John Tilman Lamkin. I have a copy of Pike County, MS by Conerly when it was re-printed by the McComb Library in the 70s. So happy to see it now on the Internet--a great source of information.

I am glad to see that my ancestor Luke Ward Conerly's book has been transliterated onto the internet. My grandmother, Ruby Conerly Ballard whose birthday is today 2/24/12 has always cherished the original book, and has shared many stories from it with all her grandchildren which she fervently adores. She is the granddaughter of the author Luke Ward Conerly mentioned above. Happy birthday grandmother, we all love you.

I bought the book from you last year and loved it. I have told several people about it. I am descended from Abram Hughes who was a blacksmith in Holmesville, although he is not mentioned in the book. I believe I am also kin to the Youngs of that area. Great reading and a true southern patriot.
